About John

Fine Gael have selected John McGahon to contest the Local Elections for the Dundalk-Carlingford Electoral Area in May 2014.

John is a son of Johnny and Mary McGahon (nee Doyle). He was born and raised in the Seatown area of Dundalk town. He attended Dun Dealgan National School and Dundalk Grammar School. He obtained a BA Honours in History and Politics from University College Dublin, where he focused his studies on political reform in Ireland.

Over the last five years has held numerous political internships in Liverpool, London and at home. While In London, John worked for the youth democracy group “Bite the Ballot” which aims to increase the number of young people registered to vote.

More recently John is working three days a week in Leinster House for Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell.

John is a member of Dundalk RFC, has played gaelic for his local club Dundalk Young Irelands along soccer with Seatown F.C. and Dundalk FC youth teams.
